The Governor of Edo State, Mr. Godwin Obaseki, and his team were in Germany to discuss with key Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) of the German Government on areas of mutual collaboration.
In a report made available to NIPC Intelligence, it was stated that the trip which was facilitated by the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ), the German development agency based in Nigeria has been in the works for some time.
Edo State prides itself as one of the most competitive investment-friendly subnational in not only the region but nationally. They have continually engaged GIZ, and other international and local development partners to promote economic development in the State.
“I continued engagements with top government officials in Germany today and met with various members of the German parliament. I also met with the Association of German Chambers of Industry and Commerce (DHK). Over the course of the week, I will be meeting with senior officials of the government to foster relations between our state and Germany,” said Governor Obaseki.
“We visited the German Foreign Office, where I met with the Minister of State, German Foreign Office, Ms. Katja Keul and we highlighted the need to further the potential for collaboration on regular migration for skilled workforce from Edo State and Nigeria.”
“During the session, we engaged on the prospects for bilateral cooperation between Germany and Nigeria with regards to special challenges in Edo State to promote sustainable employment for young people and returnees,” the further Governor said.
It was gathered that the meetings were facilitated by GIZ-Skye to strengthen existing partnerships between both governments in job creation, youth development, arts, and culture as well as investments in industries and the productive sector.
