The Edo Business Connect, a transformative initiative aimed at streamlining business operations and empowering entrepreneurs with a view to revolutionising business landscape in the state took centre stage in Benin City today, as stakeholders from government Ministries Department and Agencies (MDAs), development agencies, and the private sector gathered for a high-level engagement, brainstorming on readiness to launch the first ever digital platform for businesses in Nigeria in the coming weeks.
This innovative digital platform is set to simplify the process of doing business, foster entrepreneurship, and enhance visibility for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) across Edo State.

The session, marked by robust participation from key officials and partners, highlighted a shared commitment to creating a seamless digital ecosystem for business operations in the state.
Through this initiative, businesses will be able to register, access government support, and benefit from efficient service delivery.
A collaborative effort between the Edo State Investment Promotion Office (ESIPO), GIZ, and Edo State Digital Governance and Data Management Agency (EDODiDA), Edo Business Connect is designed to position the state as a model for business-friendly governance in Nigeria.
In his opening remarks, Mr. Amen Odigie, Managing Director of ESIPO, delivered a compelling welcome address, emphasizing the platform’s critical role in driving economic growth. “Edo Business Connect is a testament to our dedication to digital transformation for inclusive development,” he said. “The support of ministries, departments, and agencies is crucial to ensuring its success, as we work together to make Edo a hub for business innovation.”
Dr. (Mrs.) Ewe Rita Samuropa, Functioning Managing Director of EDODiDA, provided an in-depth overview of the platform’s features. She described it as a groundbreaking tool designed to serve all segments of society—literate, semi-literate, and illiterate alike. “Edo Business Connect will offer a digital directory of businesses, access to loans and grants, and real-time updates on government initiatives,” she explained. “It also includes a complaint and feedback system to ensure swift resolution of issues by relevant authorities.”
The platform which will be hosted on the Edo State Government server, is slated for an official launch between now and August. Both formal and informal businesses will be required to register and take advantage of its robust offerings, which aims to enhance accessibility and efficiency.
Mr. Osahon Okoh, Policy Advisor to GIZ, who represented GIZ, underscored the importance of digital tools in overcoming bureaucratic hurdles that often hinder micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs). “Through our partnership with the Edo State Government, we’re leveraging technology to create a more enabling environment for businesses,” he said. “Edo Business Connect will bridge the gap between government and the private sector, fostering greater collaboration and efficiency.”
He further highlighted the platform’s user-centric design, noting, “We’ve worked closely with both government officials and business owners to ensure Edo Business Connect meets real-world needs. Toll-free lines will also be available to ensure businesses, regardless of their size or location, can access support effortlessly.”
Mr. Joel Odionwe, Retired Permanent Secretary and Coordinator of the Edo State One-Stop Investment Center, praised the platform’s potential to empower informal businesses by providing them with an online presence and access to vital government services. “This is about connecting the government with its people,” he said. “It’s a platform that not only showcases what businesses do but also ensures their needs are heard and addressed.”
As Edo Business Connect prepares for its full rollout, stakeholders reaffirmed their strong commitment to its success, emphasizing collaboration, innovation, and a shared vision of economic empowerment. The platform is being put in place to redefine Edo State’s business landscape, equipping entrepreneurs with the tools they need to thrive while strengthening ties between the government and its vibrant business community.
For businesses eager to join this digital revolution, Edo Business Connect promises to be a game-changer, paving the way for growth, visibility, and opportunity in the heartbeat of Nigeria.
